A new study in the United States shows that excessive intake of sugar in experimental mice can cause brain damage and memory loss. Researchers first trained mice that could drill out of the maze and then divided them into two groups. A group of experimental rats were fed with high fructose solution daily instead of daily drinking water while another group of experimental rats were fed with both high fructose solution and omega fatty acids. Omega fatty acids are thought to protect the synapses of rats from damage. After 6 weeks, the first group of mice forgot the path of drilling out the maze; the other group of mice did not significantly affect their memory ability and could still get rid of the maze quickly.
