The global market for chiral technology in 2000 totaled 6.63 billion U.S. dollars and is expected to grow to 16.03 billion U.S. dollars by 2007. The pharmaceutical industry is the largest market for chiral technology, accounting for 81.2% of the market in 2000 and will continue to grow at a rate of 13.4%. Agrochemicals and flavors and fragrances are two other major end-user markets for chiral technology but market share is expected to decline. Chiral sources, resolution techniques, biocatalysis and asymmetric synthesis are the four major chiral techniques currently available.
