我国内燃机活塞环大部分采用铸铁或合金铸铁。由于高功率发动机的日益发展,活塞环在高温、高压和高速下进行往复运动,对活塞环的性能要求越来越高,铸铁活塞环已远不能适应要求。哈铁科研所与工务机械厂等有关单位研究和试制了轻型轨道车上的粉末冶金活塞环,经过一年多的运行试验,有比较显著的效果:
