刘徽,是我国公元三世纪一位杰出的数学家,可以说是我国古代数学理论的建树者和奠基人。他在学习前人科研成果的基础上,对于如割圆术,齐同术、阳马术、方程术、正负术、勾股术、重差术等等,都有突出的成就,大数学家祖冲之(公元429-500年)和我国后世的许多著名数学家的研究成果,许多都是在他的基础上完成的。他还用逻辑推理的方法,对许多重要的数学理论问题进行了科学的论证,这在中国数学发展史上是空前的。他的数学研究工作,为我国数学理论的形成和发展,打下了坚实的理论基础,以致逐步形成了具有我国古代传统特色的完整的数学体系。这些对我国后世数学的发展,也有很大影响,在世界数学发展史上,也占有重要的地位。刘徽的生平事迹和籍贯,史书上记载得很少。只知道他在魏陈留王景元四年(公元263年)为我国古代
Liu Hui, an outstanding mathematician in the third century of China, can be said to be the founder and founder of ancient mathematics theory in China.
