The accuracy of quantitative IR measurements depends on the ability of the spectrometer to accurately determine the transmittance and the calibration method used for the analysis. This article discusses how to test the accuracy and calibration of spectrometers. The accuracy of the spectrometer can be tested by measuring the absorbance versus the optical path length of a sample with a linear relationship of up to 3 absorbances. The more important test is to determine the transmittance of a sample with no absorbance at high refractive index. This article describes how to eliminate the error caused by the movement of the reflectance and sample images in the spectrometer on the detector.
