In his short story, The Country Guest, Frank O’Connor expressed his deep sympathy for the victims of the war that took place between Britain and Ireland and the cruelty and absurdity of the war. In the story, Bonaparte is a reliable narrator who tells the reader about a real episode that took place in this civil war. Through the Bonaparte narrative, the implied author of this article communicates to readers the sympathy and the strong anti-war sentiment toward the prisoners of war. This article attempts to analyze the reliability of the storyteller Bonaparte according to the theory of narratology.
