“Corn and Capitalism” (later referred to as “Jade”) is a process that Walman wrote in 1988 about the socialization and even globalization of plants like corn. Since the book’s perspective is based on sociological and anthropological perspectives, the author is more concerned with the role of the crop of corn, in the social processes and the tide of world history. This article will sort out the idea of the book and summarizes the research value of the book and the problems in its research by comparing “jade” with the similar typical documents. In the author’s opinion, Walman uses the unique perspective of “Jade” to show readers the picture of world history. Compared with similar literature, Walman discusses the issue in a global context and has a more macroscopic perspective than other similar literature. However, such a research perspective also brings some limitations to Walman’s argument. The author will also analyze the problems in the book’s research in the article.
