Professor Roger’s Edition (1986) is one of the most successful writings in Updike’s The Scarlet Letter trilogy. After the book was published by the “New York Times Book Review” and other American authoritative newspapers included in the list of bestsellers. The novel, 53-year-old Theology professor Roger, tells the story of computer science graduate Dell Korla attempting to use modern technology to show God’s face on a computer screen to prove the existence of God. However, Roger, a mentor, does not agree with Dell’s theology. This research has no doubt ended in failure. What the author seeks is the modern people’s awareness and reaction to the collective relations such as religion, ethics, family and morality under the background of the modernization of science and technology.
