1928年8月,戴望舒在当时中国影响最大的综合性文学杂志《小说月报》上发表了一组诗(共三首),其中一首名为《雨巷》。诗的内容其实很简单,描绘在“悠长/又寂寥的雨巷”中,“我”和“一个丁香一样地/结着愁怨的姑娘”迎面相遇又擦肩而过的场景。但是这首诗的音节特别柔美、和谐,在当时就被叶圣陶先生称誉为“为中国新诗的音节开了一个新纪元”。而这时,戴望舒还是上海震旦大学的一个学生,因为此诗而正式登上诗坛,并被誉为“雨巷诗人”。
