The authors report that waterfowl embryonic death and apparent teratogenicity occurred in the Kesterson National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in the United States in 1983, as a result of the Kesterson Reservoir being contaminated with high concentrations of selenium-containing agricultural wastewaters and using this water to discharge irrigation. A total of 1681 bird eggs from 347 nests and nests were selected and labeled to observe the process of bird egg hatching. Embryos were collected from the hatching or hatching eggs. The control area was set up in the Volta wildlife area 10Km away from 1683 to 1685 During the year, 95 bird nests and 424 bird eggs were selected for nesting
