  Polyacetylacetonatozirconium (PAZ) is a widely used precursor for the fabrication of continuous ZrO2 fibers which are important reinforced materials for ceramic matrix composites (CMCs).The spinnability of the precursor is highly related to the molecular structure and rheologic property.For the purpose of improving the spinnability of PAZ and mass production of continuous PAZ fibers by dry spinning, in this study, the effect of synthesis temperature on the molecular structure of PAZ and the effects of temperature and concentration on the rheologic property of PAZ methanol solution were investigated.The results indicated that elevated temperature induced the dissociation of pendant acetylacetone groups from Zr4+ ions, deteriorating the homogeneity and spinnability of the precursor.PAZ methanol solution in high concentration exhibited shear thinning behavior and had better spinnability.As the temperature increasing or concentration decreasing, the solution turned into newtonian fluid and lost spinnability gradually.The spinnability of the PAZ had a considerable improvement through optimizing the synthesis temperature and rheologic property.Continuous PAZ fiber bundle with 500 filaments and near-infmite length was obtained by dry spinning which paves the way for the large scale fabrication of continuous ZrO2 fibers.
