Microalgae can utilize sunlight and CO2 to synthesize organic materials and store chemical energy.Due to the tremendous potential of commercialization, biofuels from microalgae, which are known as the third generation bioenergy, have become a focus in the research and development of bioenergy in recent years.Although a lot of efforts have been made to develop microalgae-based biofuels, high production cost, scalability of the existing technologies and imperative market expansion of other microalgal products(feeds and nutrients)remain as major challenges. Therefore, there is an urgent need to generate research and development strategies to commercialize biofuels from microalgae.
