Natural disasters such as landslide and soil erosion are severe in China. Therefore, effective evaluation of slope stability further provides the warning for local/regional soil erosion, which is essential to the precise prediction and effective prevention of these catastrophes. Therefore,it is of great significance to strengthen the quantitative evaluation of slope stability for hazards prediction and prevention and regional sustainable development. Many approaches have been proposed in assessing slope stability and landslide hazards in the literature, among which the 3S-based modeling scheme show great advantages in practice. From the current perspective,a study on the distributed slope stability evaluation model coupled with distributed hydrological and mechanical models (such as infinite slope stability model),which is both universally characteristic and academically significant,is the important direction for current and future studies. The rapid development of spatial information technology (SIT) has provided effective technical means and basic platform for landslide research. The use of SIT in slope stability quantitative evaluation model and professional analysis model becomes an important topic and key technological issue in the shift from qualitative to quantitative analysis.
