Aluminum alloys with both high electrical conductivity and high strength are being paid more and more attentions for their promising applications in electrical conductors (such as overhead power lines, etc.).However, generally there occurs a "paradox" of improving simultaneously both the electrical conductivity and the strength of alloys.In our studies, we have designed different types of dilute aluminum alloys and composites to achieve a good combination of their electrical properties and mechanical performances.A series of industrial pure Al, dilute Al-Cu-Mg, Al-Fe-Si and Al-Mg-Si based alloy systems have been investigated by means of addition of Al-B-C master alloys, the alloy composition design and the proper processings such as homogenization and heat treatments.The designed alloys or dilute composites such as Al3BC/Al and Al3BC/(Al-Cu-Mg) can possess a balanced electrical conductivity and tensile strength.
