This paper analyses on the process of the transformation of Alma in the book "Summer and Smoke".Alma has changed from a pure virgin to a degraded woman whose aim is to pursue one night stand.It elaborates the deep reason that has promoted her transformation In addition, it has pointed out the direct relationship between her degeneration and the other characters in the play.Moreover, the paper has revealed the fact that the psychological conflicts of Alma is embodied in the psychological conflicts of Tennessee Williams himself.
