Over the past decade,routine chemistry outsourcing to Asia has given way to full scale drug discovery partnering due in large part to the resettlement of highly skilled,Western trained scientists and a forward thinking investment community.While the reasons for this phenomenon are numerous,the primary buy-side drivers include:escalating research costs,lackluster early stage pipelines and the need to take on increased risk with respect to the tractability of therapeutic targets.While Asian providers currently enjoy the benefits of a surplus of experienced talent and a relatively low cost working environment,inevitably,wage inflation and currency exchange rate equilibrium will erode this advantage.In response to this,currently utilized strategies and business models will likely evolve following the path of US and European research service providers.This talk will illustrate our vision towards building an organization that will succeed in a changing global economic environment,address the growing demands of both the pharmaceutical industry and patients,while concurrently maximizing shareholder value.
