Chitosan from naturally occurring materials could be applied in a range of fields such as functional composites, aerogels, and membranes.However, the fabrication of chitosan aerogels is still challenging owing to the relative weak interactions in constructing three-dimensional skeletons.Here, we propose a route toward enhancing the randomly interconnected structures of chitosan aerogels.Chitosan dissolved in the acetic solution using ammonium persulfate (APS) and sodium periodate (SPD) were oxidized step-by-step at pH 1.0 and 70℃ for 24 h, and at pH 3.5 and 30 ℃ for 48 h, respectively.Chitosan aerogels (CAs) were synthesized by the introduction of cross-linkers and oxidized chitosan (OC) to the sol system after aging, solvent exchange, and CO2 supercritical drying proceses.
