We have screened the LOPAC library for modulators of omegasome formation in order to understand the requirements of autophagy induction as well as the dynamics of this process.One set of hits mapped to the calcium pathway, and we have used one of the chemicals to examine the precise requirements for calcium dynamics for omegasome formation.These results indicate that the shape of the calcium signal and its duration, but not its amplitude, are deciding factors for the appearance of omegasomes.
