Membrane lipids play a vital role in regulating the activities of ion channels and receptors, besides its inert supporting mission.The polarized membrane lipid components, especially phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate [PI(4,5)P(2), PIP2],directly manipulates the behaviors of a variety of ion channels.Extensive studies have indicated that PIP2 itself exerts as a signaling molecule which reversibly and rapidly controls the opening and closings of voltage gated KCNQ (Kv7) channel family, but the effects of PIP2 exposured on single channel kinetics were still under disclosure.
