High capacity cathode materials are highly desired for improving energy densities of current Li-ion batteries. It is quite common that crystal structure of host lattice will occur significant variation during cycling.Achieving excellent reversibility of electrode materials require reversible local structure evolution instead of irreversible phase transition. The rate determining step during lithium storage is always related to sluggish transport of lithium ions in the lattice and correlated structure variation. It is believed that features of local structure of host electrode could play key role in determining the electrochemical performances of lithium ion batteries.
