Controlled synthesis of highly active Au/CeO2 nanotubes for CO oxidation

  Carbon monoxide (CO) oxidation is key reaction in many industrial chemical processes as well as an ideal model reaction to study the mechanism of heterogeneous catalysis [1]. At present, supported Au catalyst has always been the focus of concern since Haruta et al. discovered that small Au nanoparticles are exceptionally active for CO oxidation. While among catalyst supports, ceria (CeO2) has been considered as a promising candidate owing to abundant oxygen vacancy defects, high oxygen storage capacity and ability [2]. CeO2 with different shapes and morphologies have been synthesized and utilized for catalysis applications [3]. However, to our best knowledge, CeO2 nanotube has not been facilely and controllably synthesized and systematically studied as catalyst supports yet.
