Objective: The authors describe a method to precisely resect the elongated styloid process in patients of Eagles syndrome in a minimal invasive way with assist of surgical navigation, and evaluated the accuracy, convenience and feasibility of this technique.Methods: 15 patients of Eagle syndrome with clinically and radiologically established elongated styloid process (SP) have been included in this study.All patients were given a 3-dimensional image CT scans and the SP were located and marked in the Brainlab Navigaiton system preoperatively.With aid of real-time intraoperative navigation, SP resection was performed to 13 patients by intraoral approach without tonsillectomy and to 2 patients by extraoral approach with a 4cm cervical skin crease incision under the general anesthesia.The amount of bleeding, duration of operation and hospitalization, the length of resected SP were counted and the subjective symptoms were evaluated postoperatively.
