Neuroimaging methods have gained significant momentum in Huntingtons disease (HD) research in recent years with high resolution techniques, like new developments in positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), providing a dynamic representation of brain function that enables insight into underlying cellular dysfunction.Although structural imaging (MRI) has been included in various large scale multi-site studies in HD (i.e., PREDICT-HD, TRACK-HD), given its sensitivity in reliably detecting progressive volumetric changes pre clinically up to 10 years prior to symptom onset, functional and other types of imaging methods may offer a more complete understanding of the complex web of interactions underlying the neuropathology of HD.
