Isolation and characterization of marine exoelectrogenic bacteria from 4020-ms deep-ocean sediments

  Exoelectrogenic bacteria (EB) are becoming an important microbial resource that has wide applications in bioenergy production, wastewater treatment, biosensor, and even biogeochemistry.Most of todays EB are isolated from terrestrial environments while marine EB have not been exploited effectively.Here we report marine EB isolation from 4020-ms deep-ocean sediments.Based on the analysis of Box-PCR and 16S rRNA genes,seven EB were isolated that belong to four genera-Shewanella, Aeromonas, Haemophilus and Morganella.Among them, Morganella sp.DS4020 is the first report of exoelectrogenic bacterium in Morganella genus.
