Current chemotherapeutic treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients is effective in terms of remission rates (70%-80%).However, half of these remission patients experience recurrence of disease, ultimately leading to death.Re-growth of disease is thought to emerge from minimal residual disease (MRD) cells which in turn may represent cells grown out of residual leukemia initiating cells (further referred to as leukemia stem cells, LSC).
