The cancer staging system developed by the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) is now recognized as the worldwide "language of cancer" for use by the medical profession for selecting the most appropriate treatment, determining prognosis, and continuing evaluation of cancer control measures.The AJCC is currently collaborating with the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) to expand the current systems (published in 2009) to include cancer outcome predictive models based on clinical and histopathological features for individual patients to lay an important groundwork for the future personalized medicine in cancer.
