1972年5月,正在国外参加学术会议的李登辉博士,突然被台湾当局召回,并在事先毫无征兆的情况下被任命为蒋经国内阁的政务委员。从此,他便在台湾政坛上平步青云:台北市长(1978)—台湾省主席(1981)—“副总统”(1984)——“总统”、国民党代主席(1988)。有人说,权力是政治家的生命。然而,对于台湾政坛上这颗迅速崛起的新星来说,学识似乎比权力更重要。李登辉博士凭借自己渊博的学识登上了台湾政治权力的顶峰,并以学识和权力的有机结合,形成了清新朴实的政治形象和学者从政的特有风格。
In May 1972, Dr. Lee Teng-hui, who was attending an academic conference abroad, was suddenly recalled by the Taiwan authorities and appointed as a political member of the Chiang Ching-kuo Cabinet without any prior warning. Since then, he has been steadily rising in Taiwan’s political arena: Taipei Mayor (1978) - Chairman of Taiwan Province (1981) - “Vice President” (1984) - “President” and KMT Acting President (1988). Some people say that power is the life of a politician. However, for this rising star in Taiwan’s political arena, learning seems to be more important than power. With his profound knowledge, Dr. Lee Teng-hui boarded the pinnacle of Taiwan’s political power and formed a fresh and simple political image and a unique style of academic administration with the organic combination of knowledge and power.
