Legend has it that back in the day, when people waited, they learned the real meaning of the word “patience”. The reason? Smartphones weren’t invented yet!
听说很久很久以前,当我们等人的时候,我们会领悟“耐心”这个词的真谛。为什么?因为那个时候智能手机还没有诞生呗!
Here are 20 things we used to do — pre-smartphone — when we were waiting in line for a movie to start or for the food to come.
下面是我们在“前智能手机时代”常常会做的:当我们在电影院门口排着队等待购买电影票时,或在餐厅里等待上菜时……
1. Smile politely at other people in the same situation.
给处境相同的人一个礼貌的微笑。
2. Read the newspaper you were carrying under your arm.
拿出夹在胳膊下的报纸来读。
3. Pay too much attention to other people’s conversations.
注意别人的谈话。
4. Watch the rain or snow attentively.
专注地看着雨或雪。
5. Read shampoo bottles or anything else with words in the bathroom.
在洗手间读洗发液瓶子上的字或其他带字的东西。
6. Tap your fingers on the table.
用手指敲桌子。
7. Observe people around you.
观察周围的人。
8. Keep folding whatever paper is in your pocket until it can’t be folded anymore.
从口袋里随便掏出一张纸,不停地对折直至不能再折下去。
9. Walk back and forth.
来回踱步。
10. Update your agenda or write it on paper.
