耐火纤维炉衬新技术是工业炉节能节电的有效途径之一。与传统的砖砌炉衬相比,其具有蓄热少,散热弱,重量轻,炉墙薄,占地小,效率高,抗热震,耐振动,易施工,便维修等一系列优点。在国际上被誉之为“工业炉结构的巨大革命”。六十年代中期以来,各主要工业国家竞相发展,应用广泛,全世界迄今已有数逾万计的各种类型的耐火纤维炉衬工业窑炉。我国自七十年代后期开始发展这一节能技术,起步稍晚,进展迅速,目前沪、津、京、宁、渝等地均已陆续推广使用,其它省市也正迎头赶上。仅以上海一地为例,截止1980年8月,已有1164座电加热炉完成了耐火纤维炉衬改造,总功率达33964
