中国艺术是线的艺术,线也是东方艺术的主要特征。鲁迅先生认为中国美术最可取的三部分:汉刻、唐画、宋画,线在其中都是主角。南齐谢赫在《古画品录》中,总结了“六法”,“气韵生动”之后便是“骨法用笔”,第一次把中国特有的线的艺术在理论上明确建立起来,指出用笔是表现对象的手段,在这里用笔应包括用线与皴法。纵观中国美术史,所有画面都是由线条来担负组织造型的复杂任务,无论工、意,以线造型是最基本的立足点。中国工笔重彩画创作中第一步稿本线描与正稿勾线均须以线勾勒形体,可以说,画不好线描的人是画不好中国画的,尤其画不好工笔重彩画。
