Sentinel Lymph Node Navigation (SNNS) is a new technique for postoperative lymphadenectomy in patients with negative lymph node metastases by providing accurate distribution of lymph nodes to reduce the relapse rate. SNNS is clinically feasible in early stage breast cancer patients with negative lymph node metastasis. The application of SNNS in gastrointestinal cancer is also under study. However, questions such as how to determine the pros and cons of SNNS versus conventional lymph node dissection still require long-term prospective randomized trials of various surgical tumors.
