  Investing in Yourself
Figuring out how to invest your money can be a difficult task. This is something that you will want to learn how to do.
1 Things that will improve your knowledge, skills or health are all great investments. However, before you start, you need to be clear about what you will gain out of doing all of these things.
You may think investing in yourself means investing in your education. 2 There are some other things you can do as well as buying a gym membership or learning a new skill.
So what are some specific things you can do? 3 Reading books can really expand your mind and allow you to learn different skills and gain knowledge. I’m talking about the books where you will actually learn a new skill, not fiction books.
You can also take courses and attend seminars. These programs are taught by people with a high level of knowledge or skill. 4 Only in this way can you avoid being fooled by some sales presentations.
Moreover, investing in yourself is a safe way to keep your money. Although a savings account is seen as the most secure investment, that isn’t 100% safe. Even if you never experience your bank closing down, the return is little when inflation (通貨膨胀) is taken into consideration. 5 But over time, they will show up in terms of your happiness level as well as your level of success.
  A. This is just one way.
  B. The benefits will stay with you.
  C. If you aren’t a reader, you should start with that.
  D. The more you do this, the more valuable you will be.
  E. Of course, you need to do some research before investing.
  F. The best way to invest your money is to invest it in yourself.
  G. When you invest in yourself, you may not see gains right away.

Porridge doesn’t have a very tasty name, does it? 1 . I’m here to try and convince you that porridge can be a delicious, convenient and very healthy way to start the day.
Porridge is a type of food served for breakfast, usually a type of grain with either milk or water. It is thicker than liquid, but not solid. 2 , so it’s a very good option for people who are ill, and it provides long-lasting energy for the day.
Porridge preparation, such as the amount of materials and cooking time depends on what you choose to use as your porridge base. 3 , I put a very big handful of oats (麦片) in a pot, add a little bit of water and about 200ml of milk, and let the mixture boil. It takes about five minutes to cook. Once it’s cooked, the fun part is adding the flavors (味道). Porridge alone doesn’t have a very strong flavor. 4 , I think this is what makes porridge exciting! It is like a blank piece of paper—you can add almost anything you want to the porridge base. Seeds, nuts and dried fruits are very healthy options to add and can give you energy for the day. But if you don’t like these, or you’re allergic, then sugar and chocolate are also very tasty options.
5 . Either oats or corn or both are staple foods for most people on the earth. You can usually buy big bags of either, then add local materials to make your porridge interesting—whatever is cheap and convenient to find, wherever you are.
Hopefully porridge sounds a lot tastier now!
  A. If you’ve never eaten it
  B. If I’m cooking for myself
  C. The porridge base is very easy to digest
  D. It doesn’t have a very tasty reputation, either
  E. It is often heated up but lacks all kinds of nutrition
  F. You can make porridge almost anywhere in the world
  G. Although some people think this makes porridge boring

Among the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP), the World Health Organization (WHO) has offered basic protective measures to the public against the virus.
  ● Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub if your hands are not obviously dirty. 1
  ● 2 If you sneeze or cough into your hands, you may contaminate (傳染) objects or people that you touch. Throw tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  ● Keep at least one-meter distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever, because coughs or sneezes of people who are infected with a respiratory (呼吸系统) disease project small drops containing the virus. 3
  ● Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth because hands touch many surfaces, which can be contaminated with the virus. If you touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your contaminated hands, you can transfer the virus from the surface to yourself.
  ● Practice general hygiene (卫生) measures when visiting live animal markets, wet markets or animal product markets. 4 Avoid contact with potentially contaminated animal waste or fluids on the soil or structures of shops and market facilities. ● 5 Handle raw meat, milk, or animal organs carefully to avoid cross-contamination with uncooked food.
  A. Avoid touching animal products.
  B. This helps know the virus if it’s on your hands.
  C. If you are too close, you can breathe in the virus.
  D. Avoid eating raw or undercooked animal products.

We automatically assume that as adults, we’re wiser than when we were children. However, actually we can learn a lot from our childhood self. For example, we can learn to develop optimism about the future. Do you remember how excited you used to be just before Christmas? 1 Reintroduce that childlike wonder into our daily experiences.
We can learn to dream big and imagine the impossible. How often have you heard a child say something like “One day, I’m going to be an astronaut”? Our adult minds immediately laugh at this idea and think about all the logical reasons as to why this might never happen. 2 We minimize our chances of attaining what we dream about. It is okay to dream big just as our childhood self did.
3 Our childhood self looked at possibilities and believed we could achieve them successfully. If we wanted to build a tree house, we’d go about thinking about how to make it happen instead of focusing on all the reasons it might not happen. In this way we can fill our life with possibilities rather than regrets.
We can learn to be playful and silly sometimes. 4 Children spend a large amount of time escaping from reality to mess about and have fun. Make time for your childhood self to come out and play. Run around the garden, wear a silly hat or spend time laughing. 5
  A. Don’t imagine things will go wrong.
  B. That feeling of great joy is hard to beat.
  C. We can learn to hold a “can-do” attitude.
  D. Most children tend to think in a positive way.
  E. All of these activities can make us feel happy and alive.
  F. We employ self-limiting beliefs without even realizing it.
  G. All work and no play makes a person very dull and upset.

As for language learning, we can find that when you’re a beginner at learning a language, you may feel proud about how much you can understand and say. 1 This can feel a bit over-whelming (令人不知所措的) and, therefore, lead to demotivation (消極怠工情绪). Here are several tips if you are also finding it a little harder than usual to motivate yourself. 2 There must have been at least a few reasons why you committed yourself to learning a whole new language. Physically writing a list of these reasons will give you a chance to reflect on and remember why. You might even come up with some new reasons too!
Having a look back at your old work. 3 Remember how little you knew when you were just a beginner? Hopefully seeing your progress will make you realize how far you have come, and how much better you will get if you keep learning more!
Try something new. Sometimes doing the same old thing, like memorizing vocabulary list after vocabulary list, can be really boring. 4 Why not make a mind map with pictures and colors to learn your vocabulary this time?
5 And there are so many reasons to be motivated. Congratulate yourself on how far you have come and be excited by how much more you can achieve!
  A. Language learning does require a lot of motivation.
  B. You will probably see a great change in your ability.
  C. Think back to why you started learning the language.
  D. Limit yourself to learning just a few new words a day.
  E. Sometimes for one reason or another, we can find that it is gone.
  F. When you get better, you realize that you still have much to learn.
  G. Try to find a new activity which will make things interesting again.

Tips for Cooking on a Tight Schedule
From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don’t cook more often: ability, money and time. 1 Money is a topic I’ll save for another day. So today I want to give you some wisdom about how to make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen. Here are three tips for great cooking on a tight schedule:
  1. Think ahead. The moments when I think cooking is a pain are when I’m already hungry and there is nothing ready to eat. So think ahead of the coming week. When will you have time to cook? Do you have the right materials ready? 2
  2. Make your time worth it. When you do find time to cook a meal, make the most of it and save yourself time later on. Are you making one loaf of bread? 3 It takes around the same amount of time to make more of something. So save yourself the effort for a future meal.
  3. 4 This may surprise you, but one of the best tools for making cooking worth your time is experimentation. It gives you the chance to hit upon new ideas and recipes that can work well with your appetite and schedule. The more you learn and the more you try, the more ability you have to take control of your food and your schedule. Hopefully that gives you a good start. 5 And don’t let a busy schedule discourage you from making some great changes in the way you eat and live!
  A. Try new things.
  B. Ability is easily improved.
  C. Make three or four instead.
  D. Understand your food better.
  E. Cooking is a burden for many people.
  F. A little time planning ahead can save a lot of work later on.
  G. Let cooking and living simply be a joy rather than a burden.

The family has the responsibility for keeping young children safe, providing love and helping all their children to learn to get along with people. The most important beginning is the development of trust. The infant (嬰儿的) needs to know that there is someone who cares and provides for his or her needs. 1
Each person in the family has a need for love and affection. Each person also has the responsibility to show love and affection to other people in the family. 2 What one child feels as loving might be felt as disturbing by a different child. Each person’s needs should be respected. It is your responsibility to be an understanding person.
There are different ways to show young children love and affection. It is easy to tell when it is direct, a hug or kiss, or the words “I love you.” 3 Young children respond better to demonstrating (表达) love. Use words to describe love with action. In this way the feelings are clear and not misunderstood.
Showing love also means guiding the actions of young children. As young children grow more independent, the people responsible need to understand these growing skills. But as important as it is to allow children the freedom to explore and be themselves, it is important to set limits for children. 4
Respect the child’s self-esteem (自尊). 5 Maintain control of yourself and your feelings.
  A. A hug is a physical need.
  B. Remember how important your child is to you.
  C. Many families don’t stop to think about their values.
  D. Another way a person might show love is through actions.
  E. The way you show love can be different for different people.
  F. Respect is the most important part of family relationships and harmony.
  G. Clearly express to your child what is acceptable behavior in all sorts of daily situations.

  A Few Tips for Self-Acceptance
We all want it… to accept and love ourselves. But at times it seems too difficult and too far out of reach.
36 Here’s a handful of ways that will set you in the right direction.
  ● 37 Do not follow the people who make you feel not-good-enough. Why do you follow them? Are you hoping that eventually you will feel empowered because your life is better than theirs? Know that your life is your own; you are the only you in this world.
  ● Forgive yourself for mistakes that you have made. We are often ashamed of our shortcomings, our mistakes and our failures. 38 You will make mistakes, time and time again. Rather than getting caught up in how you could have done better, why not offer yourself a compassionate (有同情心) response? “That didn’t go as planned. But, I tried my best.”
  ● Recognize all of your strengths. Write them down in a journal. Begin to train your brain to look at strength before weakness. List all of your accomplishments and achievements. You have a job, earned your degree, and you got out of bed today. 39
  ● Now that you’ve listed your strengths, list your imperfections. Turn the page in your journal. Put into words why you feel unworthy, why you don’t feel good enough. Now, read these words back to yourself. 40 Turn to a page in your journal to your list of strengths and achievements. See how awesome you are?
  A. Feeling upset again?
  B. Where do you start?
  C. Nothing is too small to celebrate.
  D. Remember, you are only human.
  E. Set an intention for self-acceptance.
  F. Stop comparing yourself with others.
  G. When does the comparison game start?
  36. _______ 37. _______ 38. _______ 39. _______ 40. _______
