众所周知,无缝线路钢轨温度应力和温度力的大小同钢轨长度无关。在理论上讲,无缝线路钢轨长度是越长越好,但是,由于受线路钢轨状态(擦伤地段、小半径曲线磨耗地段)、桥隧设备、施工条件以及钢轨绝缘接头、道岔等因素的限制,无缝线路固定区及其两端伸缩区的总长度规定为1,000～2,000米,特殊情况下不得短于300米,其间另以2～4根标准长度的钢轨组成缓冲区。它的基本特征是:
