Indian Institute of Agriculture applied molecular marker-assisted backcross breeding technology to develop a vitamin A-rich hybrid corn. Using this technique, researchers introduced the allele of the β-carotene hydroxylase gene (crtRB1) from selected inbred lines with high β-carotene content into selected maize parents.
