Non-random and specific chromosomal abnormalities have been described in some malignant diseases in animals and humans. Chromosome maps have also been drawn for aberrations that focus on certain chromosomes and common repeats and deletions. These findings are consistent with the hypothesis that chromosomal aberrations play an important role in the process of malignant transformation. The role of these chromosomal aberrations is explained by gene amplification and/or gene activation, and various models have been proposed. However, the vast majority of tumors described so far have not been characterized by consistent or specific chromosomal changes. thing
