叶老指出:“所贵乎教者,自力之锻炼,诱导与启发,讲义并示范,其道固多端,终后乃一贯,譬引儿学步,独行所切盼。”培养自学能力是叶老教育思想的核心。农村中学语文教学质量要想提高就必须在培养学生能力上下功夫。以文言教学为例,传统的教法是背诵和串讲。熟读背诵一定数量的名篇,培养学生语感诚然十分重要,但要求学生浪费大量时间去死记硬背串讲译文也是不可取的,不论教现代文,文言文,还是习作课,都必须从学生实际能力出发。我在教改实验中做了下列尝试:
