Objective To observe the change of cerebral blood flow before and after chewing exercise in normal subjects and to explore the effect and significance of chewing on cerebral hemodynamics. Methods The transcranial color doppler (TCCD) was used to detect the changes of cerebral blood flow velocity in 30 normal subjects after resting chewing sugarless chewing gum for 10 minutes. The contractions of middle cerebral artery The systolic peak flow velocity (Vs), end diastolic peak flow velocity (Vd) and mean peak flow velocity (Vm) were analyzed statistically. Results ① The average cerebral blood flow velocity (unit: cm / s) of chewing in 30 subjects was 91.785 in systolic phase, 39.385 in peak diastolic phase and Vm in average. 55.735, respectively. The average number of post-chewing maneuvers was: systolic peak velocity (Vs) -103.030, peak diastolic velocity (Vd) -46.015, mean peak velocity (Vm) -64.090; There was no significant difference between males and females (P> 0.05). ③The subjects paired before and after mastication t test showed that there were significant differences in peak systolic velocity (Vs), peak diastolic velocity (Vd) and mean peak velocity (Vm) between the two groups after mastication (P <0.05) . Conclusion Chewing can increase the filling degree of middle cerebral artery and accelerate the blood flow significantly.
