The OECD GM Food Safety Conference was opened on February 28 in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Participants discussed the scientific and safety issues involved in genetically modified foods. In some Western European countries, consumers are currently suspicious of the safety of genetically modified foods and have a strong sense of rejection. The meeting was held in this context. The conference focused on three topics: “Genetic Improvement and Food Production”, “Genetically Modified Food and Human Health” and “Management Framework and Consumer Participation”.
