Nighttime operations include different mission areas and require greater reliability in the application of night vision equipment, such as night vision goggles. Unrecognized night vision goggles or any reduction in visual function can result in serious consequences for flight safety and operational capabilities. Under controlled lighting conditions, pilots should be able to tune the best night vision goggles and determine if night vision goggles are working properly.
