From January 1978 to December 1990, a total of 508 small-cell undifferentiated lung cancer patients were treated in our hospital. Statistical analysis and prognostic factors of long-term survival were analyzed. Results 171 cases (33.7%) survived 1 year, 60 cases (11.8%) 2 years, and 43 cases (9.6%) 3 years. The general factors affecting the long-term survival of small cell undifferentiated lung cancer are the patient’s gender, extent of disease, treatment methods, and the interval between the first symptom and the start of treatment. However, according to the analysis of 465 causes of death that have been reported in this paper, more than 90% of them died of widespread metastasis in vital organs. This is the most important factor affecting the prognosis of undifferentiated small cell lung cancer.
