肿瘤反应抗体和毒素(免疫毒素)的结合物在体内及体外已用于清除肿瘤细胞。这种免疫毒素能高效地杀伤小鼠浸润骨髓白血病细胞并用于肿瘤治疗的骨髓挽救研究。注射相似的免疫毒素能帮助诱导患白血病的小鼠延长缓解,含有抗原的免疫毒素在体外亦可诱导正常小鼠脾细胞的免疫无应答性。因此,免疫毒素应用的长期目标,包括在体内杀死肿瘤细胞以及为了治疗的目的而进行免疫应答的调节。
Conjugates of tumor-reactive antibodies and toxins (immunotoxins) have been used to clear tumor cells in vivo and in vitro. This immunotoxin is highly effective in killing mouse infiltrating myeloid leukemia cells and is used as a bone marrow rescue study in cancer therapy. Injecting similar immunotoxins can help induce leukemia in mice with prolonged remission, and antigen-containing immunotoxins can induce immune non-responsiveness in normal mouse splenocytes in vitro. Thus, the long-term goal of immunotoxin applications includes killing tumor cells in vivo and modulating the immune response for therapeutic purposes.
