In order to understand the effect of SARS on sexual function-related hormones in patients, the levels of E2, P, FSH, LH, PRL and T in serum of 58 patients with SARS were detected by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay and compared with the control group. Serum levels of E2 and P in patients with SARS were significantly lower than those in the control group, and the contents of LH, PRL and FSH were significantly higher than those in the control group (P <0.05). Serum T levels in male patients with SARS were lower than those in male controls and serum T levels in female SARS patients were higher than those in female controls. Serum E2 levels in patients with severe SARS were significantly lower than those in the common type. The recovery of the above six hormones is slower than the improvement of clinical symptoms, suggesting that the changes of sexual function-related hormones during the pathogenesis of SARS. The recovery of these hormones during the course of SARS may be a slow process.
