In recent years, people attach great importance to the changes in the surface of tumor cells. It has been found that macromolecules on the surface of malignant cells such as tumor cells and transformed cells often undergo significant changes in complex carbohydrates such as glycoproteins and glycolipids. The trend of change seems to have some regularity and commonality. And it has been found that certain alterations are associated with the malignant characteristics of tumor cells and transformed cells (such as the loss of predominantly dependent growth and density-dependent growth control, increased migration, proneness to lectin agglutination, etc.) and malignant behavior (such as infiltration, metastasis). Tumor-associated antigens are also mostly glycoproteins or glycolipids. This article describes the changes in malignant cell surface glycoproteins and glycolipids and their biological and medical implications.
