大麦新品种鄂大麦７号（原品系名“２４６３１”）是我省育成的第一个饲料大麦新品种。该品种为四棱皮麦，属春性。具有产量高、综合抗性好、适应性强、品质优、耐迟播等特点，全生育期１７５ｄ左右。每公顷成穗６００万，每穗实粒数４０粒，千粒重３２ｇ，株高９０ｃｍ。１９９５～１９９６两年省区试平均每公顷产量达６６７４３ｋｇ，比对照鄂皮２号增产１９６％。在省内外试种示范，一般每公顷产量４８７５０ｋｇ，比对照增１５０％；高产地区每公顷可达７５０００ｋｇ。蛋白质含量达１１７ｇ／ｋｇ，１７种氨基酸、烟酸、钙、磷、锰、锌含量均高于玉米，是瘦肉型猪必不可少的优质饲料，也是养鱼、养鸭、养鸡的优质配合饲料，具有较大的推广应用前景。
