After more than a few cancer patients survived radiation therapy, the risk of radiation-induced osteosarcoma increases. Physicians should pay attention to this symptom. The conclusion of osteosarcoma caused by radiotherapy was recently presented at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons conference. Michael Maggitti said that although secondary sarcomas are aggressive and have a poor prognosis, the three-year survival rate increases significantly over time. He and Joseph Lane studied 50 patients with bone tumors induced by radiotherapy and were followed up by the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center from 1929 to 1979. Maggitti said that this group of patients studied is the group with the most osteosarcoma induced by radiotherapy.
