随着人类进入信息化的时代,通讯技术和交通工具得到了迅猛的发展。改变了人与人之间的的时空观念。学校是学生受到英语教育的主要场所。在大学英语教学中,没有充分的认识到学生如何正确的使用语言去进行跨文化交际能力的培养这个问题的重要性,也缺乏对学生进行系统的有关英美生活习俗、价值观念和文化背景的认知教育。现行教学方法使大多数的学生缺乏相关的跨文化交际知识。即使是在大学期间获得过大学英语四级或者六级证书,还是不敢开口说英语,与外国人交流的时候频频的发生误解和听不懂。这种低效力的交流和沟通造成跨文化交际的效果不明显。
