语言是人与人之间进行思想交流的工具。教学工作所要完成的知识传授、思想教育、智能培养等任务,正是师生之间进行的一种多方面的交流活动,离开了“语言”这一工具是无法完成的。即使在现代化教学手段已经引入课堂的今天,也无法离开“语言”去单独完成教学任务。因此,教师的语言技能是影响课堂效果的重要因素,是实现教学目标的关键。另外,地理这门学科涉及的门类多、知识的跨度大,更需要教师具备较高的语言素养。因而,是否掌握较好的语言基本功,是衡量一位地理教师教学能力强弱的重要标准之一。到底应该怎样运用地理教学语言呢?现逐一分列于下。
