People who know a little about contemporary American poetry do not know Ginsburg. He is a devil, an angel, a rebel, a saint, a hippie, and a Zen believer. In the eyes of some, he is a notorious figure, while in the eyes of others he is a heroic, self-liberating spiritual leader. In the early 1960s, Ginsberg led the anti-mainstream culture movement, and his poem “howl” used to be like a blockbuster bombing, sparking much cheer, wonder, anger, panic and cursing. “Ladies, bring your dress, we have to go through hell. ” Poet Williams wrote in a preface to Howl. Thirty years have passed since this first long poem became a classic in contemporary poetry for many people, and Ginsburg himself was recognized by orthodoxy that rejected him. History made a joke.
