The French government opened the world’s first solar road near Normandy, a one-kilometer-long road covered by 2,880 photovoltaic cells. This test road is called Watt Road, crossing a small town called Tuluveur. From 2015 onwards, this road has passed its two-year test period successfully. The project is funded by the French Ministry of the Environment and is run by an engineering firm named Koehler. During the past two years of testing, the electricity generated by the Watt Road lit up all the street lights in the town of Thululufu. It generates 280 megawatts of energy per year and can output about 767 kilowatts a day
