花落无声(二)

  在此后很长一段时间里我们唇枪舌剑地纠缠不清,艾瑞依然毫无遮掩地笑。于是大把大把的青春就这样在我们战火纷飞的岁月里不再回头。
   高一本是火树银花的季节,而我的火树银花却在艾瑞同学暗藏杀机的笑容的摧残下变得昏暗得一塌糊涂。于是高二开学典礼结束后我恶狠狠地扯住艾瑞的衣领说,如果你再惹我我就宰了你,听清楚了没有。艾瑞扬起脸轻轻地笑,我狠了狠心咬住下唇猛然转身离开。艾瑞扯住我衣角的手被我狠狠打开,我说我现在烦透了。
   尽管如此。
   尽管如此,我依然无法摆脱那个小恶魔无休止的纠缠,在无数次看到他一点一点亲手摧毁我对于人性本善的坚定信念之后,我决定对这个小恶魔的一切撒手不管了。
   那天的阳光有些暧昧,艾瑞扯着我的衣袖说,薇儿咱们走,我带你去另外一个世界。我无力挣脱,放任他抓住我的手臂渐渐走出城市中心的繁华与喧嚣。我们穿过几近坍塌的围墙,看着那些昔日无限风光的建筑在岁月的辗转中化为一片落地尘埃,透过潮湿的空气一点点缠绕住偶然经过的微弱光线,在一片阴霾里绽放出很不和谐的绚烂的花。
   艾瑞说,这里曾经是我儿时的乐土啊,怎么说改建就真的把这些泛着陈旧岁月气息的房屋推倒了呢?我说旧的不去新的不来,现实可以改变你但你改变不了现实。转身的瞬间我在心里默默地说,我知道的,我知道的,被夷为平地的不仅仅是这些已经过去的时代的碎片,同样被夷为平地的还有你那段回忆呢。我知道的。

  After that,we got entangled1 and had an endless verbal battle with each other for quite a long time. There was a forever blatant smirk on his face. As a result, so many flowery days were spoiled in such fierce2 battles of tongue and never came back.
   Life in Senior One is full of brilliantly lighted days.Damaged by Airi’s smile with some hidden intention,my school days fell into a complete mess. Thereafter,when the opening ceremony of Senior Two ended, I caught Airi by the collar and warned him that I would kill him if he dared offend me again. Remember it or you will be taught a good lesson. But he looked up and still smiled at me. Seeing this, I made a desperate3 effort to take a bite on my lower lip,and then turned to leave all of a sudden. His hand was pulled off my clothes. I told him I felt troubled from the bottom of my heart.
   In spite of this.
   In spite of this, I was not able to get away from him, the devil. He has gradually destroyed my firm belief that human beings aregoodwhen born. I decided to release the hold on him and let it go.
   Theother day, the sunshine seemed a little dubious4. Airi pulled my sleeve and told me he would take me to another world. I failed to free myself, so I walked with him out of the flourish and noise of downtown. Then we went by the fallen enclosure walls. What greeted our eyes were the ruined buildings which used to be grand and beautiful, several faint lights through the damp air and the inharmonious flowers blooming in the haze5
   “This used to be the paradise of our childhood. How can the old buildings with old memories be overturned and re-constructed?” Airi exclaimed.
   “Without casting away the old,there would be no com-ing of the new!” I told him. “Moreover, the reality can make you change but not vice versa6.” At the moment when I turned back I said to myself that I did know it was not only the fragments7 but the old memories of the passing days as well that was leveled to the ground. I did know!

  麦琪是学期中间被调到这个公立学校的,而且一开始校长就要她当四年级B班的班主任。麦琪听说前任班主任突然辞职了,但校长没有告诉她为什么,他只是说这个班级的学生都很“特别”。
   第一天走进教室,麦琪先被吓了一跳:横飞的纸团、架在桌子上的脚、震耳欲聋的吵闹声……整个教室活像个混乱的战场。麦琪翻开讲台上的点名册,20个学生的名字呈现在眼前。名册上还记录着每个学生的IQ分数:140、141……160。(译者:正常人的IQ分数为70~120)麦琪恍然大悟,噢!怪不得他们这么有精神头儿,原来小家伙个个都是天才!麦琪微笑着请大家安静下来,为能接手这么高素质的班级而暗自庆幸。
   刚开始,麦琪发现很多学生不交作业,即使交上来的也是潦草不堪,错误百出。麦琪找孩子们单独谈话。“凭你的高智商,没有理由不取得一流的成绩,你要把潜力挖掘出来,”她对每个学生说。
   整个学期里,麦琪不断提醒同学们不要浪费他们的聪明才智和特殊天赋。渐渐地,事情发生了变化,孩子们变得勤奋好学,他们的作业准确而富有创造力。
   学期结束时,校长把麦琪请到办公室,“你对这些孩子施了什么魔法?”他激动地问,“他们统考的成绩竟然比普通班的学生还好!”
   “那很自然啊!他们的智商本来就比普通班的学生要高呀!您不是也说他们很特殊吗?” 麦琪不解地问。
   “我当时说B班学生特殊,是因为他们有的患有紊乱症,有的智商低下,需要特殊照顾。”
   “那他们的IQ分数为什么这么高?” 麦琪从文件夹里翻出点名册,递给校长。
   “哦,你搞错了,这一栏是他们在体育场储物箱的号码。很抱歉,麦琪老师,您的学生并不是天才。”
   麦琪先是一愣,随即笑道:“如果一个人相信自己是天才,他就会成为天才。下学期,我还要把B班当天才班来教!”
  
  Maggie was assigned1 to this public school in the middle of the year, and the principal asked her to teach Class 4-B right away. She heard that the former teacher had left suddenly, but the principal didn’t tell her why. All he told her was that this was a class of “spe-cial” students.
   First day, she walked in on bedlam2, spitballs3 fly-ing through the air, feet on desks, the noise deafening. She strode to the front of the classroom and opened the attendance book. Next to 20 names on the list were IQ scores: 140, 141... 160. Oh, she thought to herself. No wonder they are so high-spirited. These children have exceptional IQs. She smiled and brought them to order, grateful that she could teach such high-quality students.
   At first Maggie found the students failed to turn in work, and assignments that were handed in were done hastily and sloppily4, full ofmistakes. She spoke to everyone,“With your IQ, I expected nothing short of the best work from you. You have to bring out your in-nate excellence.”
   The whole semester Maggie continually reminded them of their responsibility to use all the extra intelli-gence God had given them. Things began to change. The children worked diligently6. Their work was cre-ative and precise7
   At the end of the semester,theprincipal called Maggie into his office. “What magic have you done to these kids?” He asked excitedly, “Their work has sur-passed all the regular classes.”
   “It is just natural. They’re smarter than regular students! You said yourself they are special students.” Maggie was surprised.
   “I said they are special because they are the special-need students—behavioral disordered and retarded8.”
   “Then why are their IQs so high on the atten-dance sheet?” Maggie pulled out the sheet and passed it to the principal.
   “Those aren’t their IQs. Those are their locker num-bers at the gym. Sorry, Ms. Maggie, your kids are not geniuses.”
   Maggie paused a bit, and smiled, “If someone be-lieves himself to be a genius, he will become one. I’m teaching them as geniuses again next year.”
